Open your camera’s settings and try adjusting the Motion Detection and Sound Detection sensitivity. Each setting (Low, Medium, High) shows a description of the camera’s and its microphone’s sensitivity (the examples below are taken from our iOS app).

Motion Detection

The motion sensing capabilities of your cameras can be a source of unwanted notifications if not set appropriately.

For instance, an outdoor camera whose view includes the sidewalk in front of your home might best not be set to High sensitivity, as this will issue a notification of motion detection events every time someone walks by.

Conversely, a camera trained on your backyard where no activity is expected during the night could be set to Medium sensitivity. (Also, this is a situation where you can take advantage of the flexibility offered by scheduling notifications; see the FAQ titled “Notification Schedules”.)

In general, when setting motion sensitivity, be conscious of factors like indoor foot traffic and pet movement and outdoor variables like human and motor traffic, children at play and windblown trees and shrubs, etc.

Sound Detection

In Total Connect's Notification settings, you can arrange to receive a notification when a sound (or certain specific types of sound) are picked up by a camera's microphone or when sound detection triggers the camera to record a video clip.

Judicious adjustment of each camera mic's sensitivity can help limit unwanted notifications (and unwarranted clip recordings).
